Newspapers
Maui Time - Available free and online weekly. This is the ultimate reference for what's happening as far as music, theater, shows, hotspots, etc. Hard hitting satire and political commentary makes this a fascinating look into the Maui scene.
The following three newspapers have all been bought up by the same Mainland company, although they all started out as independents.
Maui News - Maui's daily newspaper. Check the classifieds for vacation rentals. If you are thinking about relocating, check out the classifieds and homes for rent and sale. Then calculate the difference between what it costs to live here ($2400/mo for a family house and over $600K to buy) and what you'll get paid ($9/hour if you are lucky!) Hmmm....
Haleakala Times - A more sustainable and ecological approach to the news. Published weekly. So far, the editor has been able to keep her own voice. Good place to look for more "new age" stuff.
Maui Weekly - This started out as the voice of the developers. It still retains a pro-development, pro-Chamber of Commerce viewpoint but seems to be getting a little more balance under the new ownership and editor.
